What Is MetALD—and Why Does It Matter?

MetALD, short for Metabolic dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease with increased Alcohol intake, is a newly defined condition that’s helping doctors better understand the overlapping risks of alcohol use and metabolic issues (like obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure) on liver health.

In this powerful presentation, Dr. Juan Pablo Arab breaks down:

  • Why liver disease is rising in people who drink and have metabolic health issues

  • How even “moderate” drinking can worsen liver damage in those with fatty liver

  • What the new MetALD diagnosis means for earlier care, better screening, and improved outcomes

  • How stigma and underreporting of alcohol use can delay life-saving support

  • Why a whole-person, whole-society response is urgently needed

If you or someone you care about has been told they have fatty liver, drinks alcohol, or has conditions like type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure—this presentation could be a game-changer.
